What we collect, and what we do not

The newsletter

If you sign up, we store your email address, the date you confirmed it and which list you joined. We use it to send the letter and nothing else, and we do not sell or share it.

Every letter carries an unsubscribe link, which takes effect immediately. Ask us to delete the address entirely and we will.

The contact form

What you type into it — your name, your address and your message — is stored so we can answer you, and so we can find the thread again if you write back. It does not put you on any mailing list.

What we count

We keep a running count of how many times each article is opened, by day. It is a number per article and nothing else: no addresses, no identifiers, nothing that can be traced back to a person or a device. Your browser remembers which pieces it has already counted so a refresh does not count twice, and that note never leaves it.

Your light or dark preference is kept in the browser in the same way, for the same reason.

Links to other companies

Following an affiliate link takes you to a company that will set its own cookies and keep its own records, so that it knows the visit came from us. That happens under their privacy policy. Nothing about you is passed on by us.

Who else sees any of it

The email provider that delivers our letters, and the company hosting the site. Neither uses the data for anything but doing that job.

Asking us about your data

Write to us through the contact form and ask what we hold, ask for a copy, or ask us to delete it. We do not need a reason.
